Default Spell hit chance

So I got tired of going around in circles on both gw wikis. Then I found something on guru with no definitive answer. Which one is true?

one thing you can do is run +armor on the chest piece, as all non-projectile spells hit there

Source? They have the same chances to hit the various pieces of armor as every other attack/spell in the game.

The second has to be correct.
Head: 1/8 chance
Chest: 3/8 chance
Hands: 1/8 chance
Legs: 2/8 chance
Feet: 1/8 chance

I know, since I once got hit in the head while wearing nothing there, and it hurt >.<

IIRC, spells will always hit the lowest armor level piece of armor.

Meaning if you're an elementalist with max armor(60), enchanted & wearing a aeromancers insignia on all your armor(80AL) except your feet (60AL) if you get hit with Lightning Hammer you will take normal damage.

Pretty sure some are exceptions though, things such as the "mind" spells hit your head always and traps activate on your feet, hamstring = legs & body blow = chest. Things like that which make logical sense to hit actually hit there if I'm correct.

I believe that at one time, there was a bug which caused most spells to only hit on the hands. I think this has since been fixed.

You got a source on that?

Actually I might as well just go and test it later. Someone in another thread suggested outside Fort Ranik against Eles with firestorm. But if anyone finds a good source somewhere it'd be great if you share it.

Iirc this has never been properly tested and thus confirmed/denied. I'd be up for testing, but I don't really have much flexibility with my time nowadays.

There was once a bug that all projectile would never hit the hands, but that is already fixed a long time ago.
All spells hit a random location of your armor like paddymew pointed out, just test it by strip one part of armor, start a gvg-fight with a buddie and let him hit you with [[firestorm], [[fireball], [[searing flames] etc. and you see that most of the time you suffer normal damage but sometimes the damage is significant higher; it has hit the unprotected body part.

Although it never mattered much to me, I always assumed some spells hit a specific part and others were random. For example, a spell like Eruption, Churning Earth, Unsteady Ground, etc. is not targeted at the player, but at the ground the player is at. I assumed this meant it would effect the foot armor you wear. Projectile spells like Lightning Orb I assumed had a random chance like a spear/arrow does. All other spells I assumed were random, but never gave it much thought, and certainly never tested it.

I would love to see the results of this. Please keep this thread updated if anyone decides to test.

People also used to speculate that spells like meteor would hit people on the head or that people firing bows from a higher elevation would hit your head.

However, I don't think this is true at all, and was just random speculation. Remember, logic doesn't always apply to the mechanics of a video game.

I'm almost positive all spells and attacks have random hit locations as Paddymew said.

This has in fact been tested, and it does in fact hit random pieces of armor in the percentages that paddymew listed. I'll go find the link, because I got owned in this exact conversation when I was working with the same thought process as MagmaRed.
